About Dedicated Craft
Body care made by hand, in small batches, from real ingredients — in a world with enough synthetic ones.
We are exposed to more man-made compounds in a day than anyone can count — in the air, the water, the packaging, the furniture. Most of that we can't do much about. What we put on our skin, we can. Skin absorbs what you give it, so we think body care should be made the way food should be: from things you can name, by someone who stands behind them.
Roxanne and Frontier Angel
Nearly everything on our shelves comes from Frontier Angel, made by hand in small batches in the rural Sierra foothills of California. The company started in 2002. Roxanne sold its soap for years in her fabric shop, and when the founder was ready to move on she bought the business from her in 2017 — "I love this soap; I've always loved this soap." Before that, she learned scent blending in the 1990s at V'Tae, the small California perfume house that made real eau de parfum from essential oils the old European way — no synthetics — and grew from a kitchen table to 3,000 stores across the country. It shows: every Frontier Angel scent is a perfume-style blend of true essential oils, mixed in house.
That last point matters more than it sounds. Real essential oils are expensive, and the place where most body care quietly switches to synthetic fragrance is exactly there. Roxanne doesn't. Her rule is that what goes on your skin ends up in you, so the ingredients should be good enough to eat: non-GMO, organic or fairly traded oils and butters; colour from botanical infusions, powdered herbs, micas and earth pigments; no preservatives, no sulfates, no synthetic fragrance, no artificial colourants. Her bar soap is now zero waste — the wrappers are completely biodegradable, so there's nothing left to throw away — and the shampoo bars come in paper boxes instead of plastic bottles. She makes things for people who want a low-waste life, and she's said plainly that she'll choose the environment over the easy sale.
Everything is made by hand in small batches from Frontier Angel's own formulas, and the soap wrappers carry artwork by local artists. It's all vegetarian (a couple of bars use goat's milk or local honey), gluten-free, never tested on animals, and gentle enough to use head to toe.
And a few extras
Alongside the soap is a short row of things from other makers we like — a jeweler working in niobium and sterling silver, a glass studio, weighted wraps made by hand — each chosen one at a time.
